The different types of rodents
There are many different types of rodents; however, only a few are considered pests. According to the “State of The Market Rodent Control in Food Facilities,” only 20% of pests that homes deal with are not rodents the rest are. In fact, 68% are mice, 23% are rats, and the remaining are other rodents. Though it is obvious that rodent control is necessary when dealing with a big issue, or the risk of, such as a rodent infestation, a lot of people still do not implement rodent control to their homes or businesses.

What you should know about rodents
Rodents are known for spreading diseases due to contaminating 20% of the world’s food. Of these diseases, there are over 35 types that are spread due to rodents. In addition, rodents bite over 10,000 people.
Why is rodent control so important?
The Columbia University’s School of Public Health has released a study that describes the microbial pathogens that are transmitted by rodents and other animals. The study allows for the public to realize just how important rodent control is. Indeed, the study found about 5 bacterial pathogens and a protozoan that was being transmitted by wild house mice.
First one is Salmonella. Salmonella is the main cause of food poisoning in the country; about 1.4 million were diagnosed with the bacteria which led to the hospitalization and even death. The CDCP reported about 3,000 to 5,000 deaths from food poisoning alone taking place every year.
Leptospiria bacteria are ones that can be confused with the common flu. The symptoms are fever, headaches, diarrhea, chills, and even vomiting. This is why the bacteria is so dangerous, those infected can define them as only being a flu so no corrective action is taken. Yet, the bacterium is deadly due to increasing the risk of kidney damage, jaundice, and hemorrhaging.
Other bacteria are Escherichia coli, Clostridium difficile, and Shigella all being extremely dangerous and harmful to the human body. The protozoan is called Toxoplasma gondii and causes toxoplasmosis which causes extreme fever, headaches, and extreme muscle pain.
How to ensure rodent control

There are multiple ways that homeowners can crucially increase their control to keep rodent risk away. One way is keeping rodent-proof doors, making sure all holes are sealed; maintain the floors and the whole house clean and sanitary.
Apart from the actions that can be taken in the home, people can also take actions for themselves to keep themselves from retracting the bacteria. People should repeatedly wash their hands and sanitary clothes.
